The new luxury Beijing Auto BJ 90 SUV enters the Chinese market

The BAIC Corporation, particularly Beijing Auto, announced the market launch of the luxury BJ90 in the end of the year. This model will take a step in the SUV’s line-up of the Beijing Automotive Corporation. The crossover is based at the Mercedes-Benz GL platform, the technologies of which were legally transferred by the Germans to Chinese partners. There were used the wheelbase, motors and transmission from the Mercedes-Benz GL model. The exterior and interior design was completely invented and implemented by the Chinese side (according to the cooperation agreement with the German Auto major Daimler which possesses 12% of BAIC shares).

The BAIC’s novelty is equipped by 333 horsepower 3.0-liter V6 German engine, including the twin power turbo. The Chinese version of the model is also supplied by a seven-speed automatic transmission and the all-wheel drive system.

The luxury Beijing Auto BJ90 crossover will cost 800 000 Yuan (more than 100 000 USD). For comparison, MercedesGL-Slass’ price in China is 1 million 30 000 Yuan (almost 138 thousand Dollars). The BJ90’s main rival in the home market will be the Hongki SUV.
