BEIJING, April 27 — Chinese brands are turning some heads at the on-going Shanghai International Auto Expo.

Chinese carmakers like Geely, Chery, BYD and Huachen have muscled their way onto the floor amid such well-known brands as Audi, Mercedes, Toyota and Volkswagen.More than 50 Chinese models are featured at the Expo. Geely alone showed off 22 of them, including its top-of-the-line limousine, which boasts a sticker price of 1 million yuan.

We also want to test the market acceptance for Chinese-made middle and high level products.”According to the China Automobile Industry Association, Chinese carmakers sold 426,000 vehicles in the first quarter of this year to capture a full 30 percent of the Chinese car sales market.Although the world financial crisis has put a dent in the auto industry, Chinese carmakers remain hopeful.
